Ben Reading – Executive Headteacher at Maple Grove School and Chestnut Hill School
Having studied at Trinity College Dublin and the University of Cambridge, Ben has worked with children who have autism and additional needs and requirements since qualifying as a teacher in 2003.
Combining a Master’s degree in Behaviour Analysis with a commitment to relationship-based, person-centred support, Ben has always enjoyed working with pupils with the most complex needs. This has included children with challenging behaviour and communication difficulties, with a particular interest in curriculum design and assessment.
In addition to working in a number of very successful special schools, Ben has also worked as a specialist advisory teacher for Cheshire West and Chester’s Autism Team.

Nic Sawyer – Head of School at Maple Grove School
Hello and welcome to Maple Grove School!
Thanks so much for taking the time to read about what makes our school such a special place.
At Maple Grove, we’re more than just a school, we’re a friendly, supportive community where young people and adults learn, grow, and have fun together. There’s a real sense of warmth and connection here, and we’re so very proud of that.
As soon as you walk in, you’ll notice the kindness, laughter, and the strong feeling that everyone belongs.
I’ve been working in Special Educational Needs (SEN) for over 20 years, and I’m truly passionate about making sure every child feels included and supported. Helping each student flourish in their own way is what we care about most.
There’s always something exciting going on at Maple Grove. Every day brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and celebrate one another, all while preparing our young people with the skills, confidence, and resilience they’ll need for the next exciting chapter in their lives.

Elle Bachelor – Deputy Head of School.
I’ve been part of Maple Grove for nearly five years, and during that time, I’ve had the joy of teaching pupils from ages 6 to 18. As Curriculum Lead and now Deputy Head of School, I’m passionate about shaping meaningful learning experiences that inspire curiosity and confidence in every child.
It’s been amazing to watch Maple Grove grow and thrive over the years. It’s such a special place filled with laughter and a strong sense of community. Each day brings new adventures, fresh learning opportunities and reasons to be proud of our incredible school.

Louise Wright – Lead Practitioner.
Whilst I’m a new staff member here at Maple Grove, I have been made to feel so welcome already amongst learners, parents and staff. I’m so proud to have joined such a committed team as Lead Practitioner. I’ve been a teacher for over 20 years and have taught in mainstream and specialist Resourced Provision settings across England and Wales. I am passionate about developing personalised learning and working closely with families to provide high quality learning experiences for everyone. I’m excited to work alongside our school community for continued growth and success at Maple Grove.
